A bit about me ...

I have been a therapist since 2013 and I have worked in a variety of therapeutic services and settings. These include Liverpool Bereavement Service and Compass Counselling. I now work mainly in Private Practice.

I have also worked in a variety of non-counselling settings, these include supporting children with disabilities and their carers, as well as working with and supporting foster carers. I have also worked in organisations such as Sahir House (Liverpool based HIV charity), and Merseyside Expanding Horizons. These roles all included working with people and communities who experience isolation and social exclusion.

I was awarded Counsellor of the Year in 2020, which is a national award. This award relates to a social media campaign which aims to encourage greater connections between therapists. Part of this campaign involves interviewing therapists about their work and experiences in the therapy community, these have been published as podcast episodes and they can be found here.

I am also a Senior Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy with Liverpool John Moores University, teaching on their MA in Person-Centred and Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice. I hold a PhD in Counselling and Psychotherapy (2017) which explores the importance of boundaries in therapeutic work. This research has influenced my own practice and I acknowledge boundaries as a key aspect of all counselling relationships.

I enjoy the outdoors and running. I have raised some money for local charities by competing in a variety of races, although I engage with these for fun rather than the competition.
